The Surete du Quebec raided warehouses and homes in and around Montreal Thursday, arresting five people in a suspected marijuana-trafficking ring.

Officers arrested five people who face various charges including trafficking and conspiracy.

The drug ring allegedly operated from five warehouses and three homes in Montreal North, Laval and Repentigny. They seized computers, equipment and more than 1,000 marijuana plants.

SQ spokesman Gregory Gomez del Prado tells CTV's Herb Luft that the drug ring was sophisticated.

"Those warehouses were transformed to do hydroponic marijuana," said Gomez.

"And also we know the electricity was stolen from Hydro-Quebec."

The SQ's organized crime unit began the investigation in February with the help of the RCMP and Montreal police.
