The second wave of the swine flu is over but the flu strain will likely return, says Health Minister Yves Bolduc.

He told a news conference on Thursday that Quebec's vaccination measures were among the most efficient in the world, and he credited Quebecers for flocking to vaccination centres.

The health department says nearly 4.4 million Quebecers got vaccinated against the swine flu, which works out to 57.1 per cent of the population.

But Bolduc warns that the flu will likely rise again.

"The end of the second wave does not mean that the virus is no longer circulating."

He notes that anyone who still wants a shot can go to their local CLSC.

Meanwhile, health officials reiterated their call for people to wash their hands, wipe down work surfaces and to sneeze into the crook of their elbow.

Seasonal flu

The season flu vaccine is now available, health officials said Thursday.

It's available for free to people in high-risk groups, such as children aged 6-23 months, people 60 and over and people with chronic heart, lung and liver conditions.

The seasonal flu vaccine is also available, for a fee, to people who are not high-risk.

Anyone with questions is asked to log onto Quebec's flu website.
