Thousands of proud Canadians burst onto the streets of Ottawa with excitement Sunday night, celebrating Team Canada's win against the United States, marking Canada's 14th gold medal win and signaling the end to the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics.

Across Ottawa, residents sang the national anthem loud and proud, with the verse ‘O Canada' ringing in the streets. The same was true across the country.

On Parliament Hill, people crowded around the Centennial flame, some stepping in the fountain surrounding the symbolic fire.

Ottawa police were forced to shut down part of Wellington and Elgin Streets to compensate for the number of people pouring out of downtown bars and making their way to Parliament Hill.

The rush followed Sidney Crosby's game-winning goal in sudden death overtime Sunday, lifting the Canadians to a 3-2 victory over the United States.

The win captured the attention of Canadians across the globe, uniting them in the country's success of winning the most gold medals at any Olympic Winter Games in history.
