Thousands of protesters gathered in Quebec City Sunday to denounce the Charest government's latest budget.
Calling themselves a gathering of concerned citizens with no political affiliation, the protesters expressed their displeasure by surrounding the National Assembly.
The protesters say they represent the "silent majority" that is being crushed by rising taxes.
The provincial budget unveiled at the end of March included a sales tax increase, along with plans to increase fuel taxes, post-secondary tuition fees, and hydroelectricity rates. In addition, the province has introduced an annual healthcare fee.
