The Montreal Police force is now in charge of the investigation into two deaths in Lavaltrie, about 40 km north of Montreal.

The case began Thursday evening, when the Surete du Quebec was informed that a man in Lavaltrie was despondent and having suicidal thoughts.

Officers arrived at a home on Arcand, near Notre-Dame, and set up a perimeter, but at some point during the night they decided to move inside.

That's when they discovered the bodies of a 43-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman.

As is routine when individuals die while interacting with police, another force takes over the investigation at the request of the Public Security Minister.

Police have yet to release the identity of the two deceased.
