Montreal-based indie rock band Arcade Fire staged a free concert Wednesday night at the Place Longueuil parking lot, delighting the thousands of fans who showed up at the shopping mall for the surprise show.

"It's probably the most exciting thing Longueuil has seen in awhile," said one fan.

The free show created a buzz after it was announced at the last minute.

"I just found out about it two hours ago," an excited concert-goer told CTV Montreal reporter Tarah Schwartz.

The south shore location for the concert was inspired by Arcade Fire's latest album, called "The Suburbs".

The band members each play a variety of instruments, and switch them around during their shows.

They will be playing another hastily-announced show this weekend in Toronto at the Danforth Music Hall.
