An 11-year-old from Laval is in critical condition after he was pierced in the head Saturday night with a metal pole that had been launched in his direction.

Police were called to the yard of a home on Branly St. in Laval des Rapides at 8 p.m. where they found the victim with a 17-year-old boy.

The injured child was taken to hospital and it is unclear whether he will survive.

The 17-year-old, who threw the pole, was met by police to provide details on the incident. Police say no drugs or alcohol were involved.

The incident might be an accident, because there were no signs of an argument or an assault, said Laval police Sgt. Francois Dumais.

"Both of them were playing a type of baseball with a metal pole. They were throwing the metal pole and the other one was trying to hit the pole with a stick."

Police say if any charges will be laid against the teen, it should happen within the next few days.
