The body of 27-year-old Mandar Verma was pulled from the waters of the Riviere Rouge Monday afternoon.

The Concordia student from Brossard was last seen alive at 3 a.m. at a camp site near Grenville-sur-la-Rouge, along the river, between Montreal and Ottawa.

Friends, family members, and police all took part in the search for Verma.

Those close to him concentrated on the land search, while police deployed divers, boats and a helicopter in their attempts to locate the man.

Finally, it was a woman in a boat who noticed a body in the water, about 10 feet from shore.

Police suspect that Verma drowned while trying to swim back to his camp site, a short distance across the water from where he and some friends had been having a party.
