A 56-year-old American cyclist died Wednesday afternoon after being struck by an RV on Route 138 in Saint-Joachim, 50 kilometres east of Quebec.

The man, from California, was taken to hospital where he died of his injuries.

A woman was also injured in the collision.

They were part of a group of 20 cyclists touring Quebec.

The Surete du Quebec is investigating the scene to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the collision. Collision experts were surveying the scene and a mechanical inspection will be conducted on the RV.
