The Labour Day weekend claimed at least four lives in three fatal crashes on Quebec's roads.

Early Monday morning, a 19-year-old woman died in a hit-and-run incident involving a drunk driver in the Quebec City borough of Ste-Foy.

The suspect was arrested shortly after the tragic incident at about 3:20 a.m. Monday morning and was arraigned by video conference later in the day.

A 31-year-old woman was found dead early Sunday morning following what police believe is a speed-related crash, and two people died Sunday afternoon following a head-on collision on Highway 20 near Drummondville.

In Quebec City, police reports indicate the young victim was walking in a parking lot with a friend when the incident took place. She was quickly taken to hospital, but died shortly thereafter.

Quebec City police said witnesses saw the three men in the car flee the scene on foot, but they were quickly found with the help of police search dogs.

The driver of the car, a 20-year-old Jonathan Boisvert from Victoriaville, failed his breathalyzer test with a blood-alcohol level two times the legal limit. He was charged with hit-and-run, impaired driving causing death and impaired driving. The two other passengers in the car were being questioned by police.

Boisvert is due back at the Quebec City courthouse Thursday to enter a plea.

In Laval, a motorist discovered the woman's smashed-up vehicle in a ditch on St. Martin Blvd W in the Ste. Dorothee district at about 6 a.m. Sunday.

Police said the woman had suffered severe injuries and was ejected from the vehicle. She succumbed to her injuries shortly after police arrived.

Laval police believe speeding was the cause due to tire marks found at the scene.

Meanwhile in the Monteregie, a vehicle travelling eastbound crossed the median in St. Nazaire d'Acton, 30 kilometres southwest of Drummondville, smashing in to an oncoming car at 1:45 p.m. Sunday afternoon, said Surete du Quebec spokesperson Claude Ross.

The 17-year-old boy driving the eastbound car was killed, as well as a 54-year-old woman in the oncoming vehicle.

A third person was also seriously injured, though he is expected to live.

Highway 20 westbound was closed to traffic near the site.
