Grace Biondi launched a class-action lawsuit on behalf of 70 people who said both the city and the blue collars were negligent.
Superior Court Judge Danielle Grenier ordered the blue-collar union on Sept. 3 to pay $2 million in damages, and both the city and union could be faced with further damage payments.
City Hall says it will appeal the verdict.

Yes the blue worker were probably negligent as most unionized workers are lazy because they know they can not be fired ,
but seriously how is it humanly possible to cover an entire city with salt/sand the second it becomes icy?
I am agaisnt those crazy law suits such as the case of the woman who sued McDonald for hot coffee and got 8 millions.
In the end everybody pays a price for those crazy law suits.
The Montreal woman could have gotten $ 2000 or maybe $20,000 but 2 million?
Seriously?
What if she slipped in her bath?
who would she sue?
and how many million of dollars is slipping in your own bathtub worth?
2 millions?
10 millions?
This is ridiculous.

Good! However, sadly if the city loses the appeal, it's the taxpayers who end up footing the bill, not the actual people at fault. Something is definately wrong with our system

Ever since the municipal mergers snow removal has been pathetic. Maybe our taxes go to help clean downtown, but what about the suburbs where the tax payer lives? In the west island major boulevards like St-Jean and Bould des Sources are reduced to 2 lanes for most of the winter. Elswhere, many sidewalks are not even cleared at all and people resort to walking in the street. I never saw that in the 15 years I lived there prior to the merger. It used to be that if you lived on a small residential street you might have to wait 3 days after a storm to have the street properly cleared, now we have to wait 3 days just to get the major boulevards cleaned. Citizens need to start calling city hall, everyday, when this happens. Where does all the tax money, ridiculous parking meter fees, and abusive motorist ticketing money go???????? I guarantee you that the mayor's street and sidewalk in MTL is cleared regularly. Get bent Tremblay.

Good but unfortunately they will appeal. Hopefully the Supreme Court will agree with this Judge's logic and decision. Time both parties had to pay for their actions.

Unions create jobs and cost the tax payer insane amounts of cash. Here is another example..

Right she is and I hope that City Hall will loose !
It's not only 2004 - every winter, we have the same problems. They are earning enough money to do a good job .... but it stops here. They don't do it !The day that they will do their jobs, I'll change - perhaps - my mind. But I don't really think that this will happen in my lifetime.
