A 13-year-old girl has died from injuries allegedly sustained after her 71-year-old father struck her, Longueuil police said Monday.

Spokesman Marc David said Longueuil police arrived at the home at 3075 Chambly Road in the Vieux-Longueuil borough just after 6 p.m. last Wednesday.

"The father called 9-1-1 stating that his daughter was on the ground, he had hit her and she was unconscious with a bleeding nose," Const. Patrick Barriere told CTV Montreal.

Neighbour Karine Girard said she saw from her window the girl's father coming out of the residence.

"He was full of blood. He had blood everywhere, there was blood everywhere. My kids saw that, it was awful to see," said Girard.

The teen was taken to the Montreal Children's Hospital where she slipped into a coma, and died at approximately 10 p.m. Saturday night.

David said her 71-year-old father, Moussa Sidime, was immediately taken into custody and arraigned on charges of assault.

He was due to appear in court Tuesday for his bail hearing on those charges, but will likely be arraigned on new charges after the death of his daughter, David said.

CTV Montreal's Aphrodite Salas spoke to the family Monday and they declined comment, saying they would issue a statement on Tuesday. They also said they are meeting with their lawyers.

Those who lived near the family were shocked by the girl's death.

"She was so polite and kind and soft, and now she's gone," said neighbour Linda Robert while fighting back tears. "Now she's gone and there's nothing we can do about it."

There was a steady stream of family and friends visiting the girl's family Monday, offering their condolences.

"We haven't slept," one woman said. "We've been too sad."

Robert said the girl had grown quiet in the past two years, and that she had been affectionate and playful until that point.

"She didn't talk much," she said. "She came from the school and went right into the apartment. She didn't play outside."
