Police were called Thursday night to break up a group occupying the offices of the Minister for the Status of Women.

50 people occupied the office in the afternoon while others protested outside.

Police moved in when the women refused to leave long after the business day was over, arresting nine people.

All were eventually released after making promises to appear in court.

The protesters were demanding an increase in Quebec's minimum wage, and the return of sexual education classes in schools.

This weekend hundreds of people are expected to take part in the Montreal chapter of the World's Women March, with similar walks taking place across Canada and around the world.

Last week the Quebec Women's Federation issued an apology after creating an ad that said soldiers fighting in Afghanistan were cannon fodder.
