LAVAL - A 26-year-old man is facing murder charges after a 21-year-old woman's body was found at the couple's apartment in Laval Saturday morning.

Police say the woman was killed with a blunt object inside the bedroom of the apartment at 605 de la Concorde Blvd. in Laval.

Police described the scene as bloody, but would not provide more details. The death was initially labelled as suspicious, but after questioning the man – who called 911 to report the death at 6 a.m. from a pay phone some 10 kilometres away – police say they have now charge him with murder.

"There are signs that… led us to believe it was more than a suspicious death – it was a murder," said Laval police spokesperson Franco Di Genova.

A roommate, who lived with the couple, was unable to break up the fight.

Neighbours say they regularly heard the couple arguing.

A friend who knew the couple said they had their problems, but they didn't appear to be severe.

"All I know was that they argued like normal couples, but I never knew them to be violent," she said.

The suspect will be charged Monday, when police will confirm his identity.
