MONTREAL - A 42-year-old man died Friday from injuries suffered when he was run down Thursday night in a case of road rage.

The suspect, 26-year-old Jeffry Lindor, was arraigned Friday at the Montreal courthouse on charges of second degree murder.

The victim, Jorge de Castro, was driving on Laurier Ave. East, near 18th Ave. at around 8 p.m. Thursday evening when he and another man stepped out of their cars and got into a verbal argument.

"The 26 year old driver got back into his car and left the scene," said Montreal Police Constable Daniel Lacoursière. "While he was leaving the scene he got into a collision with the other driver - a 42 year old man that was just beside his car."

Guy Couture works at a corner store on Laurier and 17th, and he said de Castro came into his store often.

"I left here to see what happened and I saw the guy lying down on the road," Couture said. "So I figured out what happened after."

Lindor's family was in court Friday crying at his arraignment, clearly overwhelmed by how his life had changed in an instant of rage.

Lindor is due back in court in January for his bail hearing.

Meanwhile, de Castro's family was trying to come to grips with the events of Thursday evening.

His father, Jose de Castro Sr., told CTV Montreal's Rob Lurie that his son had just started a new job and that he was a good uncle who loved his two young nieces and his nephew.

Jose de Castro Sr. says both he and his wife have watched the surveillance video obtained by the TVA network, and that the sight of their son dying on video was beyond shocking.

"It was savage," de Castro Sr. said. "You don't do that to a human being."

The victim's brother, Jose de Castro Jr., hopes this tragic incident can serve as a lesson to others to not let their emotions get the better of them.

"If you just wait one second before you react, and I've done it, everything dissipates very quickly and logic starts setting in and you start going 'What was I about to do?'" de Castro Jr. said over the phone. "Breathe deeply once before you react and I think a lot of people and a lot of lives might get saved."
