Two people Montreal police are saying are linked to the Italian mafia were arraigned Tuesday at the Montreal courthouse on numerous gun-related charges.

Désidéro Pompa, 33, and Rita D'Andréa, 30, were arrested in Laval on Monday as part of a larger investigation into organized crime, police said.

"It's part of an ongoing investigation," said Montreal police Const. Daniel Lacoursière. "That's why we can't give out any more details."

Police first arrested Pompa in Laval on Monday and found a gun on him. A search warrant was then issued for Pompa's home in Laval, where two more guns were found.

D'Andréa was at the house when police arrived to conduct their search, and was placed under arrest.

Police would not say whether the two will be facing other charges.

It was the Montreal police's anti-gang unit, working alongside Laval police, that made the arrests.
