MONTREAL- The suspect in the murder of a 41-year-old man in Pointe-Claire appeared briefly in front of a Quebec Court judge at the Montreal court house Thursday and was formally charged with the second-degree murder of Brian Bougie.
The 41-year-old victim apparently agreed to provide shelter to Sean Brennan, 22, in his apartment on Duke of Kent Ave. in Pointe-Claire.
Brennan's last known address was in Dorval. According to police, there was a scuffle between both men, and Bougie was allegedly stabbed to death.
Just before Brennan's court appearance, court house security told the court that the suspect assaulted another prisoner who was also awaiting his arraignment in front of the judge.
Brennan appeared late for his scheduled 2:30 p.m. court appearance in handcuffs and surrounded by several guards.
Brennan has a lengthy criminal record.
He was previously convicted of illegal possession of a firearm, obstructing a police officer, resisting arrest, uttering death threats, and breaking bail conditions on several occasions.
He's never received any jail time, only suspended sentences and probation.
If convicted of second degree murder, Brennan would face life in prison, with no possibility of parole for a minimum of ten years.
