Residents of Montreal's west end will soon have a new CLSC in their neighbourhood.

The Quebec government announced plans Monday for a $22.5-million construction project.

The new clinic will be built in the Benny Farm housing development in NDG.

Health Minister Yves Bolduc said there's an increasing demand for medical care in the area.

He said the objective here is to be able to better satisfy that demand by providing improved quality, availability, and safety of treatment.

The government said the new clinic will also be able to accommodate staff from the other health and social services providers in the area.

It will be a four-level building that will have state-of the-art medical equipment, and the government hopes that will be attractive to young doctors may have considered leaving Quebec.

The new development will replace a CLSC located around the corner on Cavendish near Sherbrooke. The CLSC in Cote St. Luc's Cavendish Mall will not be affected.

Earlier this year a new public Sports Centre opened in the area, and the municipal government has also proposed building a library in the neighbourhood.
