Nova Scotia and New Brunswick have long been competitors when it comes to concerts and sporting events, and the competition between them could be heating up again.

Zimbabwe has withdrawn its bid to host the 2015 Women's World Cup of Soccer, leaving Canada as the sole contender, and Halifax and Moncton are both eyeing the title of host city.

Seven Canadian cities have shown interest in being a host city, including Vancouver, Winnipeg, Montreal, Ottawa and Edmonton, in addition to the two Maritime cities. Only six cities will be chosen as hosts among the seven, which adds to the pressure already felt in Halifax to build a stadium. There has been talk of building a stadium that will support summer concerts and major sporting events, and the buzz has only grown since the capital city hosted the 2011 Canada Winter Games.

Halifax Mayor Peter Kelly in insisting that a stadium could be built in time for the world cup event, and city council is proceeding with a $100,000 feasibility study to look into it.

Soccer's governing body, FIFA, will select the host nation at the end of this month, but with Canada left as the only contender, it's likely to win the bid.

Once Canada has been officially selected, the six Canadian host cities will be announced.
