MONTREAL - Quebec's healthcare system is being primed to go completely digital over the next few years.

Health Minister Yves Bolduc says by 2016 hospitals and medical clinics should be using electronic medical charts and files.

The computer programs are expected to make the practice of medicine more efficient and secure.

Dr. Jeff Barkun, a surgeon at the McGill University Health Centre, said it makes a difference.

"It's changed the lives of physicians who have to deal with a lot of information at the same time," he told CTV Montreal's Cindy Sherwin.

"It gives you all the information in one place."
