One week in and nothing is certain. Far from it.

Do we really get the leaders we deserve? If so, we all should be sent to the corner.

The Bloc Quebecois came out with its campaign theme this week: Parlons Qc, Let's talk Quebec.

That's anything but a surprise. What else would they talk about?

This party is nothing but talk; a parochial narrow-minded party which was supposed to be around for one election, interested in nothing but dysfunction and self interest.

A party which gets the majority of its money from taxpayers.

A party which got only 38 percent of the vote in Quebec but two-thirds of the seats.

Too bad the federalist parties can't get together in certain ridings to defeat Bloc candidates. That would be a real coalition.

NDP living an illusion

Jack Layton is once again living the illusion that he could become Prime Minister.

The NDP leader who got us into this election is making promises he can never keep, like capping credit card rates. It's a great idea but not realistic.

I know he would love to be in power, but I would love to play left field for the Red Sox.

I can't see either dream happening anytime soon.

Liberals regaining what they lost

The Liberals need to find a way to recover their base.

In the last election they lost almost a million of their voters. 835, 230 fewer Liberal votes than in 2006 to be precise.

Their supporters stayed away in droves from Stephane Dion and his green machine.

It's far too early to count Ignatieff out. These may be strange days indeed

Tories need a conscience

As for the Tories, far too many Canadians still have a trust issue.

The Harperites need to prove to Canadians that they have some sort of social conscience.

Harper may try to appear soft and fuzzy. (Heck did you know he had a paper route when he was a kid?)

But posing with kittens won't work because many Canadians still fear Tory claws are too sharp for comfort.

You have got to like Max Bernier.

Our former Foreign Affairs minister says he won't put up campaign signs nor will he make any promises.

He has no program and says he will just listen to the folks in the Beauce. If they want them, they'll elect him. If not so be it.

Bernier is one politician who doesn't take us for fools.

The lighter side of politics

There are 19 registered political parties in Canada

There is the Pirate Party. It says it "strives to reform copyright laws and to protect the privacy of Canadians." I just like the name.

There's that old favourite the Rhinos.

On their website they proudly say we don't speak English very much but we French very well.

They promise their website will be translated some day.

One of the best ones though has been deregistered for this election. I don't know why.

I could give some serious thought to the Work Less Party.

Workers of the World relax. Alarm clocks kill dreams.

That would be something to sleep on.
