MONTREAL - A star Tory candidate says it is "normal" that more of Ottawa's money should go to Conservative ridings, as opposed to those held by opposition MPs.

Former CFL commissioner Larry Smith told reporters today in Montreal that Conservative ridings are the sites of many federally funded projects.

This, he says, is just part of political life.

Smith is running in Lac-Saint-Louis, a riding in the western part of Montreal that is considered a Liberal stronghold.

He says little has been accomplished in the riding in past years because it didn't have an MP in government.

Smith is running against Liberal backbencher Francis Scarpaleggia, who has represented the riding since 2004.
