MONTREAL - Montreal police are investigating the city's 12th homicide of the year.

A 66-year-old man was found dead in his apartment on Notre-Dame Street East near 57th Avenue in Pointe-aux-Trembles on Tuesday night around 7:35 p.m.

The homicide was first treated as a suspicious death but an autopsy revealed foul play was involved.

Police weren't able to establish the exact time of death but according to Lynne Labelle, the corpse was not in a state of decomposition, suggesting the death did not go back more than a day.

The victim suffered injuries to the head. A family member made the gruesome discovery.

At this time last year, nine murders had been committed in Montreal.
