MONTREAL - Sixties rocker turned philanthropic do-gooder Trevor Payne has been humming a new tune.

Following a battle with cancer, he has launched the Trevor W. Payne Fund for Men's Cancer.

His fight has opened his eyes to the struggle so many have faced, too often in silence.

He has learned that men stricken with cancer, "either hide or come out and obsess with trying to help other people, it becomes part of our own cure, there's some selfishness in it too," he says.

"Getting involved and trying to help others - and even save people - is part of my healing and I would think that Michael J. Fox and Terry Fox probably felt that way," he says.

Payne has a fundraising music event slated for Thursday May 19 at the Oscar Petersen concert hall.
