DOLLARD-DES-ORMEAUX - A 56-year-old man was arrested Monday morning after his 65-year-old wife was found dead by police in their Dollard-des-Ormeaux home.

The victim, Lynn Chaloult, was said to be a quiet type by her neighbours, the proud mother of a law student who worked at a cemetery near her home at 47 Place Touraine.

The couple's daughter called 9-1-1 when she became concerned after not hearing from her parents for several days.

Police entered the home. at 10 a.m. Monday to discover the woman's body, and her injured husband, who police say attempted suicide.

He was arrested and taken to hospital, but he was expected to be released later Monday and then taken for questioning by the Montreal police major crimes unit.

Neighbours said the couple was not obviously having trouble.

"I never heard any noise from them," neighbour Jake Banon said. "I never knew if they were fighting or something like that."

However, there was some trouble a few weeks back when the couple's electricity was cut by Hydro-Québec.

"The husband was furious," neighbour Antonio Salvador said. "He told me 'Had I been a French Quebecer this wouldn't have happened. Because I'm English they cut me.'"

"He was so upset, he was having chest pains, and had to be taken to hospital by ambulance," Maria Salvador added.

Police will not say how the victim became the 17th homicide of the year in the Montreal area.
