A cyclist was seriously injured after being hit by a city bus in Pointe-Claire on Monday morning.

The incident occurred on Delmar Ave. near Hymus Blvd., where the 204 bus line normally runs.

Andre Leclerc of the Montreal Police said Monday night that investigators had not yet determined how exactly the accident occurred.

He said both the cyclist and the bus had just passed an area of the street where construction was being done, so the street was narrower than normal.

The cyclist, a man in his 20s, wound up trapped underneath the bus and dragged some distance before the bus came to a stop.

Leclerc said when the victim was taken to hospital there was some concern his life would be in danger, but he was quickly deemed to be in serious but stable condition with multiple fractures and lacerations.

Police were unaware whether or not the man was wearing a helmet.

This is the third such incident involving an STM city bus in the past six weeks, though the first two incidents were fatal.

William Quintero, a 17-year-old high school student, was pinned under a bus at the corner of Rachel and Frontenac on April 19. Quintero was riding his skateboard and was hit as the bus was making a right hand turn.

One day later, a 53-year-old woman died when her car ran into a bus at the corner of Henri-Bourassa and Garon in Montreal-North.
