Casey Anthony, the 25-year-old mother who was acquitted of killing her daughter in a sensational trial that grabbed headlines, will be released from jail on July 17 instead of next Wednesday.

The Associated Press reported the date late Thursday, which corrected earlier reports.

She was sentenced to four years in jail earlier Thursday for four misdemeanor convictions. Anthony, who was been in jail for nearly three years, is receiving credit for the time she has already served as well as for good behaviour. She must also pay a $4,000 US fine.

Anthony was acquitted of first-degree murder charges on Tuesday, but was convicted of lying to investigators about what happened to her two-year-old daughter Caylee.

She was found to have lied in 2008 about working at the Universal Studios theme park, about leaving Caylee with a fictional nanny, about leaving her daughter with friends and about receiving a phone call from her.

Her lawyers argued Thursday to have the four convictions reduced to a single count, since they happened within one continuous conversation. Judge Perry declined to reduce the convictions, however, and applied the maximum one-year sentence for each count.

Anthony kept a stoic face for much of the sentencing on Thursday but could also be seen smiling at times.

During the trial, prosecutors argued that Anthony had suffocated her daughter with duct tape in order to resume her party lifestyle and spend more time with her boyfriends.

But her lawyers argued that Caylee accidentally drowned in a swimming pool at Anthony's parents' house in Orlando, Fla. and her father decided to make her death look like a murder after his daughter panicked.

The defence said Anthony's father, a former police officer, applied the duct tape and dumped Caylee's body a quarter-mile from the home as part of the ruse.

Anthony and her daughter had been living with her parents at the time. It isn't clear where Anthony will live upon her release.

CNN's Holly Firfer, reporting from outside the court, told CTV News Channel "the biggest concern for Casey Anthony right now is security. They just want to make sure that wherever she goes she will be safe."

The attorney for Anthony's parents George and Cindy Anthony has indicated she will not be living with them, though it wasn't clear whether that was due to security concerns or rifts that developed due to accusations made during the trial.

At one point, Anthony's lawyers made unproven allegations that she had been sexually abused by her father and her brother -- abuse that they said contributed to the way she dealt with Caylee's death.
