ST-LIN, QC - A 35-year-old private nudist camp in St-Lin says that it is under attack.

One house in the town of 12,000, 50 kilometers north of Montreal, has been burnt to the ground and cars have been torched.

Suzanne Blanchet, a member of the Eden community, had her house set on fire as well.

"It was a real shock to us because we invested a lot of money here," she said.

The Eden nudist colony says that the trouble started when condos starting going up.

"One person a bought a unit in the condo development and when he bought it he signed a contract saying he'd respect our right to have those services," said Blanchet.

That same owner then set up a housing project and the nudists countered with a legal maneuver to block the project. Then the fires began.

The nudists do not practice much nudism any more these days but they want their deal kept firm.

St-Lin mayor Andre Auger is not on their side.

"He is helping the other side that's his choice," said Eden member Micheline Savard.

The mayor and property owner in question could not be reached for comment Friday.
