BROSSARD, Qc - Benito Driss, former CFO at the Ville Marie Medical and Women's Health Centre at Guy and Sherbrooke, is long gone but the clinic he left remains determined to move forward in spite of the distraction.

Driss, 33, also known as Nassim Ben Driss, Driss Nassim and Nssim Benyamina, is accused of taking $1.5 million from the establishment, but clinic administrators stress that patients are still getting top-notch treatment at the facility.

Driss was hired as CFO of the company in 2005 and it is believed that he enriched himself through various schemes which were only uncovered by the firm in 2010.

He is now wanted for arrest by the Montreal police for defrauding the company by redirecting deductions at source - the portion of employee pay that should go to the government – to himself. This was among the bookkeeping ruses that he allegedly committed to direct cash to himself.

Months after the discovery, the clinic has started making arrangements to repay the governments cash that Driss allegedly stole.

"We're still in negotiation for the interest in penalties. That has obviously compromised our relationship with the banks," says director Dominic Keizerlingk.

He says that in spite of the administrative challenges, the clinic continues to deliver the excellent health care for which it is known.

Neighbours and acquaintances describe Driss as well-dressed and friendly, as was his wife.

"They were nice people and I know that he went to university he did an MBA, so yes I'm surprised," said Laura Radu, a former neighbour.

Police have still had no luck in finding the wanted man, whose abandoned home was seized as compensation for the theft.

The clinic put out a statement on Friday that read, in part: "the center continues to operate and patients need not worry of any closure. The center continues to uphold its mission of providing its patients, including the close to 400 new breast cancer patients the center diagnoses yearly, with the highest standards of care available."
