SAINT-AMABLE - Two men were killed and another was seriously injured Friday while trying to lift a mobile home.

The work accident occurred in Saint-Amable, about 40 kilometres east of Montreal, shortly after 2 p.m.

Capt. Yannick Parent of the Richelieu-Saint-Laurent Regional Police said the residence was being lifted in order to do insulation work that involved piping.

The men were caught underneath the rubble after the house, which had reportedly been raised with mechanical jacks, collapsed on top of them.

`It made them prisoners,'' Parent said of the pinned men, who had to be pried free by emergency workers.

"They were badly injured,'' he said of the men's condition when they were pulled out.

Parent said the men weren't professionals and that one of the victims was the owner of the house.

All three were rushed to hospital, but two of the men later died. No residents were inside the home at the time.
