MONTREAL - The Montreal Canadiens added depth to their defence corps Monday with the signing of Jeff Woywitka.

Woywitka, who recorded 11 points in 63 games with the Dallas Stars last season, was signed to a one-year, two-way contract for next season.

He would reportedly receive $650,000 a year if he plays in the NHL.

Since the 2005-06 season, the 27-year-old has played 251 career regular season games in the NHL with the St. Louis Blues and the Stars.

He helped Team Canada capture the silver medal at the 2003 World Junior Championship, registering two points in six games.

A native of Vermilion, Alberta, Woywitka was drafted in the first round, 27th overall by the Philadelphia Flyers at the 2001 NHL Entry Draft. He joined the Stars as a free agent on July 7, 2009.
