Two townhouses in Pointe Claire were heavily damaged by fire ovenight.

Firefighters rushed to 300 Tudor Ave., near Sources Blvd., just before 2 a.m. and found a fire burning in a second floor bedroom.

Inside was a 15-year-old boy trying to put out a fire on his mattress, but he was not successful and suffered first- and second-degree burns to his hands and arms.

The boy was taken to Sacre Coeur hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile firefighters tried and failed to stop the fire from spreading to an adjoining building.

In the end two families had to flee leave their homes, and the roofs and top floors of two buildings were heavily damaged.

One firefighter inhaled smoke and was taken to hospital.

The fire department is investigating the cause and cannot say at this point exactly how the fire started.
