MONTREAL - Chris Nilan grew up with dreams of playing in the big leagues -- and he did, playing the role of enforcer for the Boston Bruins, New York Rangers and the Montreal Canadiens.

The tough guy nicknamed "Knuckles" was often injured and abused painkillers including oxycontin and heroin.

But after being clean for years, he sat down with Mutsumi Takahashi to talk about his battles on and off the ice.
