MONTREAL - A 31-year-old woman ordered deported to her native Mexico collapsed at Trudeau International Airport Tuesday morning.

Paola Ortiz was taken by Urgences Sante workers to hospital for treatment, and was released from hospital Tuesday afternoon.

She will meet with a government official Wednesday morning to determine when she will return to Mexico.

Ortiz fled Mexico in 2006 and filed for refugee status in Canada, saying her spouse was abusing her.

One year after her arrival the Immigration Review Board turned down her application.

Ortiz is now married to a Canadian citizen and has two children, now four and two years old.

She also made efforts to become a Canadian citizen.

"She's been sponsored by her husband and she's already received a Quebec selection certificate, so she's not that far from getting permanent residency," Istvanffy said.

Ortiz received a deportation notice last Thursday and Istvanffy filed for a judicial stay of removal the next day. A judge ruled Monday evening that her deportation should proceed as soon as possible.
