A boil-water advisory was lifted Sunday evening for the municipalities of Kirkland, Pointe-Claire, Beaconsfield, Baie-D'Urfe, Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue, Senneville and parts of Dollard-des-Ormeaux.
The boil-water advisory was in place throughout the weekend, after replacing a non-consumption order placed into effect for the West Island municipalities Friday night.
The warning was due to low chlorine levels at the Pointe-Claire water treatment plant, Pointe-Claire officials said.
The problem was discovered thanks to a foul odour from an intake pipe, believed to have been caused by decayed weeds and leaves.
That plant serves several local municipalities.
Tests performed this afternoon indicate water from Pointe-Claire's filtration plant is now safe to drink, Mayor Bill McMurchie announced Sunday at 6 p.m.
Those who consumed the water during the should not be concerned, said McMurchie; bacteria levels did not rise enough to cause illness.
