QUEBEC CITY - The Quebec National Assembly unanimously voted to condemn the appointment of a unilingual anglophone to the role of Canada's Auditor General.

The motion was adopted Wednesday without debate and attracted the support of every MNA in the house.

Michael Ferguson, former Auditor General of New Brunswick was recently named to replace outgoing federal Auditor General Sheila Fraser, who took her retirement.

The motion was deposed by ADQ MNA Francois Bonnardel and was supported by all other parties and demanded that the Auditor General learn French as fast as possible.

Ferguson's nomination must be approved in a parliamentary chamber resolution and by the senate.
