Pupils in Mascouche did not get to ride the big yellow bus to school Wednesday morning, since 92 bus drivers are on strike.

The walkout affects 86 routes used by the Commission Scolaire des Affluents and the Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board north of Montreal.

At the Sir Wilfrid Laurier school board, the strike is affecting 297 students from 3 different schools: Rosemere High School, Pinewood Elementary in Mascouche and Franklin Hill Elementary school in Repentigny.

Employees of Transporteur Terremont have not had a contract since June 2009.

The president of the bus company says several other transportation firms also have employees working with expired contracts.

Members of the CSN union are asking for higher salaries.

The school boards expect this week's walkout to continue until Friday.
