ALMA, Que. - A former Crown prosecutor has pleaded guilty in Quebec to corruption and breach of trust.

Jean-Francois Morency has admitted to dropping charges, in exchange for cash bribes, back when he was a prosecutor.

He made the guilty plea in the Alma, Que., courthouse in the province's central Lac-St-Jean region.

Morency was arrested in 2008 by two undercover police officers who had recorded him discussing such an illegal arrangement.

Thanks to those recordings, authorities were believed to have an iron-clad case against Morency.

The Crown and defence lawyers will now discuss possible penalties. Morency faces up to 14 years in prison.

Morency had reportedly taken between $5,000 and $6,000 from an acquaintance to drop a drinking-and-driving charge -- then began discussing a similar scheme when approached by undercover agents.
