MONTREAL - Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon for Einick Gitelman, one of the men killed in a horrific double murder last Friday.

Gitelman, 28, was killed in St. Henri Friday when he and another man, 29-year-old Matt Dutch Garner, were murdered when the triplex was set in flames.

Hundreds gathered Wednesday afternoon to remember Gitelman, who was described as a gentle and kind man.

"He was just a very loving person, always looking out for others, and he was just always smiling and always outgoing," said friend David Golbert.

Childhood friend Adem Kendir remembered Gitelman as helpful.

"He was always laughing… and he was a nice guy," he said. "He was always there any time you needed a favour. That's, I think, the biggest thing I remember about him."

The brutal way he died has left an imprint on friends, including Kendir, who said the nature of the murders is beyond comprehension.

"When I found out about this the way that it happened, it's not just a murder, but the method was just unconscionable," he said

Gitleman and Garner were in the St. Remi St. apartment when witnesses say at least three people entered the home.

Witnesses heard sounds of a fight and then the door burst open and a man ran out engulfed in flames. He eventually collapsed in an alley across the street.

Flowers and candles still litter the steps of Garner's apartment where the killings happened, and another 15 candles mark the spot in the alley where one of the men collapsed before his death.

Montreal police say they are still receiving tips into the Gitelman and Garner murders, and are investigating each tip.

They say for the time being investigators are still working on the hypothesis that the double murder was committed as a result of a drug deal gone wrong.
