MONTREAL News anchor Todd van der Heyden will say goodbye to his hometown, and to CTV Montreal, at the end of the year.
Van der Heyden has accepted a new position at CTV News Channel in Toronto, and begins work on a new show in January.
"Montreal has always been my home and I'm so grateful for the opportunities and support the people here have given me," said van der Heyden. "There are a lot of things I still want to do with my career."
Since 2008 van der Heyden has been co-anchoring the top-rated news program in Montreal, CTV News at Six, with Mutsumi Takahashi, but he's been working here for more than a decade.
His presence will be missed, said Don Bastien, Senior Vice-President and General Manager of CTV Montreal.
"We are sad to see him go, but he's staying in the family and we look forward to seeing him reporting on the national stage," said Bastien.
Van der Heyden joined CTV Montreal in 2000 as a reporter, and in 2003 began a focus on consumer affairs as the reporter and producer of the On Your Side segment.
In 2005 he joined Tarah Schwartz on the anchor desk for the weekend news, and two years later began anchoring the noon news with Takahashi.
For the past several years van der Heyden has repeatedly gone to Toronto to fill in as news anchor for CTV News Channel and on Canada AM, and despite his love for his hometown, is looking forward to the new opportunity.
"The move to Toronto and CTV News Channel to anchor a national show is an exciting change. I'm really looking forward to it," said van der Heyden.
His final show in Montreal will be on Friday, Dec. 30, and as of Jan. 16, 2012 van der Heyden will join Amanda Blitz as co-anchors of the daily show Express, which will air on CTV News Channel from 1-4 p.m.
His successor will be announced in the coming weeks.

Tom, think you should the rest of your shows in an English accent, widen your range and lessen the sadness because people would find it just buggin'.
BTW, I like the idea of Paul moving up and then Maya moving in but you need a guy, not a gal, couldn't stomach two women hosting, so yeah.

Mr John.
OOPS...!!!
Sorry Lorie...I mispelled your name in my previous comment.Excuse!
Mr John.
@Domenic...
Laurie Graham is very good at what she does.I stand to corrected if I am wrong but I think Laurie is a meteoralagist with "CTV" and not a reporter as such.
@MYOB...Andre Corbeil also very good at his profession,is a former hockey player as I understand and is on staff as a sports caster.

You have done a fantastic job, Todd and we are so sorry to see you go..
wish you all the best in Toronto.

hope Paul will be your replacement.

I don't watch tv like I used to, but to learn (this Saturday morning) that Todd is leaving CFCF was a major shock!
It's bad enuf that CFCF dropped their morning news segment, and to learn he's another to go to 'the center of the universe' just rubs salt into the wound!
But apart from all that, I wish the mahn good luck, and just let him know that I'll try to catch his segment on CTV Newschannel.
John
@SB between the two of them they have 11 wks vacation each year.... Herb luft used to disappear for the whole summer.

I'm really happy for you Todd yet sad at the same time. Best of luck in Toronto but remember, you're still a Montreal so you better recognize.
As for his replacement, Paul Karwatsky all the way. He's really good on the weekend newscast, he's young and most importantly his jokes aren't lame! Now who should replace Paul on the weekends you might ask? Maya Johnson...extremely competent and very credible. Plus, I think it's time CTV switch it up a little and add some more diversity to the news panel. If Montreal is so multi ethnic, I think your anchors should be too...like Mits is not cutting it anymore...just saying.
Ex Montrealer
Yet another star heading down the 401. Too bad. CTV Montreal will be very hard pressed to find an able replacement. Judging by the current on air staff no one is near his level. Right up there with Don McGowan and Bill Haugland ! Oh well GOOD LUCK. You'll be sorely missed. Now I wonder if HE ever did his nightly newscast wearing something OTHER than his suit pants (think McGowan)?? Sharp dresser.

Sorry to see you go. having loved in Toronto for 20 years, (now back, I can assure you that you will LOVE Toronto and Toronto will LOVE you right back.

High time Todd left. The tension during the newscast is palpable. Good riddance.

Ah...man...I am so going to miss seeing Todd on TV every evening at 6PM. Going to miss your ties!!! ;>) Your sense of humour also, especially that one time when you were trying to get through saying: "Bring Your Yak To Work Day"!!! I still laugh at recalling how much you laughed at that!!! All we can do is wish you the best of luck in your new job, and say a HUGE Thank You for doing a spectacular job of bringing us the news!!!!
RandyK
Good for you, Todd ! Kudos.
You will be missed locally.
SB
Not surprised by this. I noticed tension between him and Mutsumi ever since he took over from Bill Haugland as evening anchor.
Ever noticed there are so many nights that only one of them was anchoring the news? Much too often. I also think he doesn't get along with quite a few other CTV Montreal reporters, especially Randy Tieman.
Paul Karwatsky should be filling in Todd's spot. Eventually Tarah Schwartz will take over Mutsumi's place.
Of course Todd will earn much more money in his new position in Toronto. It's a win-win situation for him. All the best Todd!
Karen Higgins
Todd, you will be sorely missed in Montreal. All the best to you in your new adventures in Toronto.
Barbara
Hi Todd - all the best of luck - we will miss you and your smile -
congratulations.

It sucks that todd is leaving for toronto, in a way i do not blame him. More money and no more language problems. All the best todd you will be missed.

To Mr. Todd van der Heyden:
Thank you for being part of the Montreal landscape for 10 years and for doing news coverage for CTV News. The Anglophone community here in Quebec really need someone like you. We wish you could stay but if the opportunity is there, follow it.
One more thing, I saw you anchored Canada AM for 1 week and I can say, you did great on that show. Now that Seamus O'Regan is now on CTV News as a reporter, I think your the best guy to take his place (No offence to Marci Ien).
Mr C
Its long overdue....
cristina
Congratulations Todd!
However we were sad to hear you are leaving Montreal and CTV Montreal. I do enjoy watching you every evening.
Dilys

Nooooooo...I'm so sad to hear that you will be leaving. You did a great job...you and Mutsumi made a great team!
Gisabun
Adios Todd. Good luck in that other city. Another Montrealer moving away - joining Rob Laurie in Toronto for a while.
As for his replacement, I am not sure but I suspect another male to "compliment" Mutsumi Takahashi. Catherine Sherrifs will have to wait.
Carol
You were on your way to becoming a CTV Montreal legend. Loved your sense of humour. Best of luck on the national scene.
Roger Rabbit
There are alot of people who can fill Todd's place. No big loss.

Too bad to see Todd go, but best of luck to him. I hope CTV Montreal will seriously consider Catherine Sheriffs as his replacement. I know having two women anchoring the show will be a change but she's definately the most articulate news anchor on CTV Monteal.
Aïda
Lucky Toronto! Will definitely miss seeing you and listening to your poised and balanced style and presentation of the nightly news. Best of luck and continued success.
Mr John.
Congratulations Todd and good luck!!
