MONTREAL - The resurrected Winnipeg Jets' first visit to Montreal hit a hard landing, thanks largely to four goals by Lars Eller.

`Tonight, everything went in,'' said the 22-year-old, who has five goals and two assists in four games since, due to some careless play, he was made a healthy scratch for a 4-0 loss in Winnipeg on Dec. 22.

"I knew I had to make much better decisions out there and play a more simple game,'' he said. "Focus on the small things and the goals will come. I knew they'd come.''

The Canadiens entered the third period with a narrow 3-2 lead but Eller notched his second of the game on a nifty passing play organized by Travis Moen and Andrei Kostitsyn at 2:41.

A few seconds later Michael Cammalleri shoveled a backhand towards the net from the corner and it entered the Jets' net on a rebound.

Eller completed his hat trick a few seconds after that on a beautiful play by Andrei Kostitsyn, who had stickhandled with ease around several Jets defenders. The fans littered the ice with every type of cap.

The three goals were scored within 50 seconds and brought the score to 6-2.

Eller then scored his fourth on a penalty shot, which he earned after being hauled down on a breakaway. He circled onto his backhand and shoved the puck past Mason, thus doubling his season's goal total in a single game.

Earlier Tomas Kaberle scored his first in a Habs' uniform on a two-on-one pass from Travis Moen.

The goal gave the Habs a 3-1 lead but the Jets scraped back to 3-2 on a goal by Blake Wheeler, a frequent scorer against Montreal this year.

The Jets took an early first-period lead on a marker by Tim Stapleton before the Canadiens potted three straight.

Josh Gorges scored on a wrist-shot from the point and Lars Eller added his first goal 43 seconds later on a quick short-side wrister following a turnover on the Jets breakout.

Chris Mason replaced Ondrej Pavelec in the Winnipeg net with 13 minutes remaining in the third period.

Andrew Ladd scored his 13th goal of the year for the Jets with 6:55 remaining to make it a 7-3 game.

Eller stayed on the ice for an extended time after the game encouraging fans to cheer as he was named the game's first star.

The last Canadien to score four goals in a game was Jan Bulis who did the feat almost five years ago in Philadelphia.

The Winnipeg Jets have not won in Montreal since March 14, 1985, and have lost 14 in a row.

The Jets began a four-game road trip that will take on the Maple Leafs in Toronto on Thursday night before stops in Buffalo and Boston.
