Every year breast cancer awareness advocates ask Canadians to wear pink to draw attention to their cause.
Here in Montreal fundraisers are also using the opportunity to draw attention to an upcoming charity walk, the Weekend to End Women's Cancers.
Karine Mayers of the Jewish General Hospital Foundation, and Debbie Toth, who has breast cancer, spoke to CTV Montreal about the event, and about a documentary that criticizes such fundraising initiatives.
The film L'industrie du Ruban Rose contends that most massive fundraising events divert money to cancer treatment and marketing campaigns, instead of to cancer research.
Mayers said that is not the case for the Montreal walk.
"The Weekend [to End Women's Cancer Walk] here in Montreal is very specific in that all the funds really do go back to the Jewish General Hospital and its community," said Mayers.

What is the difference between Cancer treatment & Cancer research? I thought they were the same. Mr editor please send me a long e-mail back. I know all the money raised goes back to the Jewish Gen. Hosp. It also goes to the Segal Center. All administration costs for the Weekend are waived by every one who helps put this together every Aug. I think this is a wonderful idea. Let us all do our best to beat all forms of cancer in both women & men. Let's have a walk for men. Bye.
