MONTREAL — Parts of Quebec could be slammed by 30 centimeters of snow by Friday, according to Environment Canada, which issued a weather warning for the entire St. Lawrence Valley Thursday.

The precipitation should fall on lands along the St. Lawrence River from the Ontario border to the Gaspe.

The snow, combined with strong winds, will combine to reduce visibility to almost nothing in certain regions starting Friday overnight.

It's possible that Montreal, the Monteregie and Townships will also get hit by several millimeters of freezing rain.

The precipitation should start Thursday evening in the southwest of the province, mainly in the form of snow, possibly with a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain on the southern and central parts of the province on Friday night and morning.

Environment Canada says that given the complexity of this system, the quantities of snow still remain uncertain for the south of the province, but the accumulations will be significant in several areas of eastern Quebec.

For now, fifteen centimeters are predicted for southwest Quebec, 20 to 30 centimetres for central Quebec, 15 to 25 centimeters for the Lower St. Lawrence and the Gaspé, and 15 centimetres on the North coast.

Take heart Folks there is only another month of old man winter left. I can still my grandfather saying" when I was young we had to go ant the snow was half way up the house and it was -40C Da Da.Da..... " Everyone saying is slightly different, However, It brings a smile that I can still remember those sayings.

Sandra comments I aprouve with her comments since the force MERGER the service in PFDS as decline even they know where ice trouble stretts are it thake for ever to put salt resuluting in big traffic congestion .

I love Quebec weather , The seasons keep us young...Stop all your crying , help your neighbors and perhaps shovel a little bit of snow...crack a little ice , mabye have a conversation with someone...
Plus the cold freezing weather helps keep my fur nice and shiny !

Call when there is ice,etc...Yesterday and today a quick call brought a truck in less then 10 min on my street in lower Westmount.
But be polite...and simply inform. I was told if no one arrives in 30 min to call back.
The only other thing to do is stop bitching via forums like this and run for office in the next elections and show us how much better you will do the job.!!!

Oh yeah they take AGES to salt the sidewalks, on Dec 16th I fell due to black ice and it wasn't salted till that afternoon at 1:30 and I fell at 10:30 and bashed my knee and hit my head on the pavement, I'm lucky to be alive, and still suffer headaches and some dizziness and just might sue the city.

Snow removal in my area was VERY
badly done....and with the mixed precipitation that we get...we all know that the salt trucks should be out BEFORE the temperature goes down....that's when it takes better effect....at least I THOUGHT we ALL knew that:(

Looking forward to a "snow day" from school (ie ... NO school!!) Haven't had the kids home in a lonnnnng time due to the weather!

I agree with Rachelle. In VSL, they never bothered putting salt on the sidewalks during the freezing rain.Our street was covered with a blanket of ice until it finally melted!! It can snow for all I care, but the city needs to be more efficient with snow removal and making sidewalks safer for everyone.

I hope they do a better job cleaning the streets now then before, it took three weeks after the snow fell when they clean our street in st laurent and NO SALT for the sidewalks, come on guys wake up and clean better and faster please,
