MONTREAL - McGill's men's basketball team launches into the playoffs Wednesday night facing the UQAM Citadins in a semi-final match.
After finishing the regular season with a pair of wins the Redmen are hoping to keep their momentum.
"This is what you play for all year," said head coach Dave Deaveiro. "It's the first time in a while but it's more pressure. It's one and done, so if you don't get it done, the season could be over."
The Redmen are no stranger to pressure, having managed to finish the season in second place without the man who is arguably their best player.
Simon Bibeau tore his ACL in October, forcing his teammates to rely on each other.
"We have to pick it and up play better as a team, and individually, but also just how you we play together makes a big difference," said Tristan Renaud-Tremblay.
Team captain Winn Clark agrees.
"We changed our dynamic as a team, without Simon," said Clark. "He can put up points, so we've had to increase defence and rebounding and i think we've executed pretty well."
The Redmen finished second in the Quebec Conference with a 10 and 6 record, and while they haven't won anything yet, they have earned home court advantage for the first game of the playoffs.
The game begins Wednesday at 7 p.m.
