MONTREAL - 12,000 students had the chance to party Monday at the Bell Centre for the inaugural Children's Hour.

The one-day festival uniting francophone, anglophone and other students is the brainchild of Daniel Germain, the same man responsible for the Club des petits dejeuners du Quebec.

He is not just trying to make sure children are well-fed. Germain wants to give them the drive to be successful.

"They're the generation I've been waiting for. They're inspired, they know what they're talking about," said Germain.

The Children's Hour launch event was also the start of a public fundraising campaign where people are being asked to donate an hour's pay to fund student-initiated projects.

Montreal singer Annakin Slayd, who has already worked with the English Montreal School Board, said it is important for children in school to have something to look forward to.

"They have to know there's so much out there," said Slayd.
