MONTREAL - The Montreal Impact scored its historic first-ever victory in its maiden MLS season Saturday, eking out a hard-fought 2-1 win over the Toronto FC.

Sinisa Ubiparipovic scored the game's opening marker in the 18 th minute by guiding a low shot to the left of goalkeeper Milos Kocic. The Bosnian had been set up on a pass by Lamar Neagle.

High-touted rookie Andrew Wenger scored his first MLS goal by racing down the left side, forcing a Toronto defender to panic and backheel a ball that Wenger then blasted home in the 81st minute.

Danny Koevermans narrowed the lead to a single goal by scoring for Toronto in the 89th minute.

The Impact are now 1-4-1 and managed some passionate play and a couple of nerve-racking goal-line clearances.

Toronto FC now sports an unhappy 0-4-0 record and were forced to play with 10 players after Logan Emory was red-carded in the 65th minute.

Over 20,000 were in attendance at the Olympic Stadium in a game that started at 12 noon.
