MONTREAL - Sucking up the fake rays is now illegal for minors in Quebec.

The National Assembly unanimously passed Bill 74 on Tuesday, prohibiting tanning salons to allow those under 18 years of age onto tanning beds.

Similar laws already exist in New Brunswick, British Colombia, as well as several other U.S. states and European countries such as France and Germany.

The Canada Cancer Society, The Dermatologists' Association of Quebec, The American Academy of Dermatology and The World Health Organization have long linked the sun-bed tanning to higher risks of skin cancer.
